Statement regarding LockBit claims

Earlier this morning we became aware of tweets from LockBit, the cyber-criminal gang, claiming that they had compromised Darktrace’s internal security systems and had accessed our data. Our security teams have run a full review of our internal systems and can see no evidence of compromise. None of the LockBit social media posts link to any compromised Darktrace data. We will continue to monitor the situation extremely closely, but based on our current investigations we are confident that our systems remain secure and all customer data is fully protected.

Darktrace, the leader in Enterprise Immune System technology, announces that a major Canadian automotive company has deployed Darktrace’s Enterprise Immune System in order to defend its corporate systems against cyber-threats.

The company, a subsidiary of a global automotive conglomerate, exclusively manufactures and distributes a range of vehicle types of select brands across the country. As a producer of modern vehicle technologies, specific vehicle parts and provider of financial services to its large customer base, the company places great importance on the protection of its intellectual property and its long-term brand reputation in turn. Moreover, it manages a complex network of around 300 dealerships and 20,000 employees, and recognized the need for a technology capable of defending its internal assets efficiently within such a dynamic system.

Following a four-week Proof of Value (POV) trial period, the company decided to deploy Darktrace’s award-winning Enterprise Immune System due to its unique ability to detect emerging threats, from external and internal sources, as they occur. Powered by machine learning and probabilistic mathematics developed at the University of Cambridge, it models the behaviors of each user, device and the network as a whole to establish a ‘pattern of life’ for the organization. This allows it to spot anomalous activity in real time, which may be indicative of in-progress cyber-threats.

In addition, Darktrace’s Threat Visualizer interface provides the company with a 3D graphical overview of its network activity, enabling it to investigate threats as they occur, dynamically allocate human resources based on threat classifications and ultimately prioritize the most serious threats.

“It is great to see a leading Canadian company within the automotive sector prioritizing its cyber defense,” said Rob Sass, Managing Director USA, Darktrace. “To stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated cyber attackers in the current cyber landscape, organizations need to take a new approach to proactively defending their critical assets, including confidential customer data. Darktrace’s ‘immune system’ means that this company can stay abreast of new developments within its network, including insider incidents and potential cyber-attackers, and maintain its reputation as a leading brand in its field.”
